Online Ordination

For a really personal touch to your wedding, how about your best friend conducts the ceremony!?

For every couple taking vows there must be a voice officiating them. The question is, just how official does this third party need to be?

Whether we like it or not, online ordination is part of our culture. It is now nearly 10 years since Robbie Williams stood up at his best friend’s wedding and the trend is still rife. But just how easy is it to become ordained?

Very, is the short answer. The crazy thing about online ordination is that anyone can do it. This in itself makes it quite an astounding concept, and oddly tempting. Like the adverts to volunteer with the Metropolitan police. If anyone can do it, why shouldn’t you? Why haven’t you?

Step one is to find a website that will ordain you. There are a multitude out there, some more inviting than others.

In an ideal situation, you pick the church you become ordained with in accordance with your beliefs and lifestyle. It is not, however, necessary for there to be a direct match, and to be religious isn’t a strict requirement either.

So step two, picking your church, is a loose stage for optional consideration. If you intend to take your new position seriously it is probably worth investing some time in getting it right, but no one is going to chase you up on it.
